Marc

Name: Marc

Major: Anime, Foreign, and Independant

Minor: Mainstream

Marc was born in the early 70’s in the Detroit burbs and has lived in the area his whole life. Growing up, his small black and white TV was constantly abuzz with Godzlla Week each Spring and Benny Hill every night. Every Saturday began with that seasons new Cartoons and ended with Creature Feature or Martial Arts Theatre. Every Sunday began with Ma and Pa Kettle and Abbot and Costello and ended with that weeks’ Star Trek rerun.

Starting in the late 1970’s with G-Force and Battle of the Planets, rolling into the 80’s with Voltron and the seminal ‘Americanized-Anime-Combo’ of Robotech, Marc was seated into a life long infatuation with Japanese Animation. Through a few friends at local comic shops, he was able to see copies of Anime from Japan frequently handed down – one VHS copy into another VHS copy – traced all the way back to a Tokyo living room. The beginning of the Anime Revolution of the early 1990’s with official subtitles, dubbings and the like was very welcomed indeed.

Much of Marc’s adolescence was spent between the pages of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror books by Heinlein, Clarke, King, Koontz and others. Several Saturday nights wandered into early Sunday mornings as brave warriors and wizards did battle with terrible beasts of evil at marathon D&D sessions, the best of times spent with the best of friends.

In 1997 Marc started dating his wife Donna, who he married in 2000. Last December their son Glen was born, bringing their house to two adults, one baby and 10 cats. The cats, Adira, Vir, Londo, Mr. Morden, Claudia, Bester, G’Kar, Morathi, Bella, Brite Eyes, Precious and Momma Kitty have welcomed Glen into their family with open paws. Much to Marc’s surprise, at 4 months old Glen shows no interest in using the litter box, despite encouragement from the cats.

Major Influences include: J. Michael Straczynski, George Lucas, Haruhiko Mikimoto, Quentin Tarantino,  Akira Ifukube, Masamune Shirow, Ron Moore, Shoji Kawamori, and Hayao Miyazaki.
